Therapeutic Approaches
Evidence-based approaches tailored to you
No single method works for everyone. Kevin draws from multiple trauma-resolution and relational modalities, choosing the approach that fits your specific situation and goals.
The modalities
What each approach offers
Thoughts · Emotions · Behavior
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT identifies and reshapes the thought patterns that drive difficult emotions and unwanted behaviors. Practical and skill-focused, it builds the connection between how you think, feel, and act — giving you concrete tools to interrupt cycles that keep you stuck.
Attachment · Connection · Relationships
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT is built on attachment theory and is one of the most well-researched approaches for couples. It helps partners identify the negative cycles that create distance, access the deeper emotions underneath, and build a more secure emotional bond.
Trauma · PTSD · Anxiety
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing uses bilateral stimulation — guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones — to help the brain reprocess stuck traumatic memories so they lose their emotional charge. Endorsed by the WHO, APA, and VA as a first-line treatment for PTSD. Many clients experience significant relief in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.

Brainspotting
Based on the discovery that specific eye positions correlate with areas of the brain where trauma and emotional pain are stored, Brainspotting works below the level of language and cognition. By holding attention at a relevant eye position, the brain can access and release material held in the subcortical brain — the part that governs emotion, survival, and body experience.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
ART uses voluntary image replacement to change how distressing memories and sensations are stored in the brain. It is fast, focused, and does not require you to talk extensively about traumatic events. Many clients experience significant relief in as few as one to five sessions. Kevin is a certified ART provider.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS views the mind as a system of distinct "parts," each with their own perspective, role, and history. Protective parts often carry burdens from past wounds. IFS helps clients develop a compassionate, curious relationship with all their parts — reducing internal conflict and promoting deep, lasting healing.
Frequently asked
EMDR vs. Brainspotting
Both are powerful trauma therapies that work beneath conscious awareness. Here is how they differ.
Brainspotting
- -Uses fixed eye positions (brainspots)
- -More internal, body-centered focus
- -Works well for complex and developmental trauma
- -Can be done with eyes open or closed
- -Often described as deeply meditative
EMDR
- -Uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping)
- -More structured, protocol-based
- -Widely researched for single-incident trauma
- -Involves more active cognitive processing
- -WHO-endorsed first-line treatment for PTSD
Kevin is trained in both. Which approach is right for you depends on your history, goals, and how your nervous system processes stress — something you will explore together in your sessions.
